Break it Down

KJ52--Collaborations

It's rap music. (Christian) Ike and Kaelea left it on my MP3. And I like it. Alot. In fact, I can't stop listening to it. In the car. In my kitchen. First thing in the morning. Just before I go to sleep.

I'm a mom. A missionary. I was raised on country music which includes the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw ("Salute!")

And somehow rap music has bounced its way into my soul.

This isn't a new development actually. I have secretly loved this stuff for a long, long time. (a jambox and the Permian band bus come to mind:-)) Unfortunately, I have not been able to indulge my love of this music because of the awful themes and language rappers in the secular world choose to "share about". Thankfully, Christian rappers have stepped up with better words and messages. And now, thanks to Rockin' I and K I am in possession of some poppin', hip hoppin' quality tunes!

They say confession is good for the soul.

"My name is Cheryl and I love rap."

Word.

We saw Steve Curtis Chapman (christian country) and DC Talk (christian rap) in concert in Dallas a long, long, time ago ... I can still remember how the music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those missionary chicks dance, and maybe, she'd be happy, for a while...
but February made me shiver, no rain did God deliver ...
No power on my door step
More candles to light, one more step
I can't remember if I cried,
when I read about Mr. Jeffies bride,
something touched me deep inside
the day
that hee-haw died,
and she was singing

(oops, wrong song, wrong era actually).

She grew up in the land where the grass was blue,
If it's gonna be believable it's
GOT 2 B True.

p.s. If you don't have a copy of the Got 2 B True duet with SC Chapman and Toby Mac let me know and we'll mp3 you a copy somehow.

Welcome Cheryl,
I would definitely say your brother-in-law "The White Man" as I affectionately call him, knows his stuff. If you can listen to them I will send you stuff via e-mail. I am just affraid I would slow your system down. I have loved rap way back to old LL.Cool J, and Run DMC. But I too, had to let it go until the christian artists step into the game. And I too am back at it. So thanks for your confession and welcome my child the "rap world welcomes you".

Hi! My name is Rusty and I love Rap music too! Although, mine is of a different variety.

"Now, I try to make the best of every music we play,
But my favortie music we call Reggae."

Reggae has it's own variety of rap usually referred to as 'Dancehall Reggae.' Because of the lyrics this isn't excactly my favorite style of reggae. There aren't many Christian Reggae groups that have made progress in purifying that genre. But the most prominent group in the Reggae Christian charts is called Chistafari. They are incredible and although they aren't specifically a rap group, nearly half of their music includes rap in it. One of my favorite songs is an original love song praising God for blessing him with "The love of my life," His wife. (It also ecourages purity among those that are not yet married.) The title track on their album, "Soulfire," is one of the most hard core rap songs I've ever heard. It's Way powerfull!! Yeah, JAH LIVE!!! Give thanks and praise for Jah mercy. Peace in He. Rustafari the Christafarian.

Mom--I am actually NOT surprised at all. Through the twangs of country heroes and church quartet music that I also adore...a beat always emerged. It wore Blue Suede Shoes :-). You rock Mom. You always have.
